Today, Franco-Cameroonian hip-hop artist and melodic emcee Dirtsa reveals her galvanizing single “say shit!” a poised call to action stemming from her personal experiences with the world’s adversities to racism and microaggressions. In “say shit!” the poet turned rapper oozes confidence, demanding the listener’s attention through her signature melodic rap flow over swelling bass drops and wind-whistling atmospheric keys. Through personal anecdotes, Dirtsa invites us to break into an ideal new world together where personal boundaries take precedence and we speak up for those who may not have the courage to use their voice.
Dirtsa is widely known for her philosophical bars and conveys yet another trickle of parables with her poetic lyricism. “I tried you around I can’t have us / now let’s take fate as a metaphor / but don’t be crossing by my door no more / ‘member your sacked me way before” [lyrics from, “says shit!”] Here, Dirtsa shares that fate is a way to explain the human condition. The actions you take based on the way others treat you will ultimately lead you to your next phase; she’s taken these experiences and solidified her boundaries and, thereby, has elevated her artistry and fortitude.
“‘say shit!’ was inspired by my desire to explore my sound, but also black music in general. In situations of injustice, we can’t stay silent. This song particularly deals with the resilience we must channel to create a better world for everyone,” says Dirtsa when speaking on the inspiration of the single.
The neoteric artist has made an exciting entrance into the world of breakthrough talent, which initially began with her success at the Pernod Ricard Music Competition (France) where she took first place. This led to a publishing deal with Cutcraft Music Group (BIA, Chet faker, Izzy Bizu). In 2021 she completed her first country-wide tour, performing at various festivals including Delta Festival (Marseille), Chateau Sonic Festival (Brenthonne), Let It Free Festival (Montendre), and MaMA Festival (Paris).
“say shit!” is the lead single from the 24-year-old artist’s forthcoming sophomore EP Truly, didi. It follows the release of her highly praised debut EP Aletheia’s Calling, which proved that she is an artist who is ready to take the reins as the next commanding superstar.
