Nigerian Afro-Fusion Artist Ajofé Makes His 2024 Debut With New Single, “Voodoo”

Triple-threat rapper, writer, and producer, ajofé, unveils his highly anticipated single “VOODOO.” This electrifying offering not only reaffirms his prominent position in Nigeria’s street-pop landscape but also showcases his unwavering ambition, painting a vivid picture of a visionary artist at the forefront of his craft. The fusion of sharp, textured production by ajofé sees the creative collision of raw authenticity and innovative soundscapes. “VOODOO” can’t help but lock you into a bouncy groove, as its infectious beats and lyrics sweep listeners into an irresistible musical journey.

On the inspiration behind the new single, ajofé explains: “When I was done recording this particular song, I was instantly confused on what to do with the sound knowing that the message could be misunderstood. This has nothing to do with promotion of drug abuse, but with having the right conversations around proper attention to mental health. We blame everything on drug use and the devil thereby enabling individuals to run away from taking ownership of poor decisions”

ajofé’s music is characterised by an electrifying fusion of street vernacular, narrative prowess, and innovative Afro-Groove rhythms, reflecting his deep-rooted connection to his African heritage intertwined with his experiences in America. He coined his genre as “Afro Groove,” a unique fusion influenced by artists such as Fela Kuti, Jay Z, Kid Cudi, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar, alongside earlier inspirations like 2shotz and Biglo. Through his music, ajofé not only embraces his cultural duality but also pioneers a new wave in Afro-alternative music, as showcased in his diverse EP series ‘LUCID.’ From the introspective narratives of ‘LUCID I: Negros Creed’ and ‘Lucid II: The Jungle’ in 2019 to the thought-provoking ‘Lucid III: The Black Stories’ in 2022, ajofé delves into personal struggles, growth, love, and global racial issues.

In 2020, ajofé’ unveiled his debut album, ‘Artwork Loading..,’ accompanied by an unreleased short film. This album, a testament to his evolving artistry, showcases his distinctive sound and boundless potential. With his rich, velvety baritone vocals and poignant storytelling encompassing themes of growth, pain, and redemption, the album seamlessly intertwines elements of hip-hop, soul, and dancehall, cementing his presence in the music industry. The album garnered critical acclaim at exclusive listening events in Lagos and Abuja, further underscoring ajofé’s innovation and depth as an artist.

Born Adukwu Samuel Atadoga, ajofé embarked on his musical journey during his formative years, composing songs at the tender age of 14 and experimenting with beats on a church piano by 15. His debut single “Oh Boy Weytin?” during his Senior Secondary schooling served as a bold proclamation of his extraordinary talent. Growing up in a media-rich environment, courtesy of his father’s involvement with the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, ajofé found solace and self-expression through the medium of sound. This passion fueled his pursuit of a Master’s in Communication, with specialisations in Business Communication and Entertainment Marketing in the United States, expanding his artistic vision.
