Emerging Nigerian artist Slymkrez has joined voices with the myriads of musicians using their art as a tool to help people look inward and live better. And in his just-released Debut sound piece, a 4-track extended playlist dubbed, ‘Listen To The Message, Don’t Shoot The Messenger,’ the 24-year-old singer blends both melody and message to create a timeless body of work that is the EP.
Sonically, the four-track body of work is a smooth blend of Afrobeats and Reggae, a mix that showcases his heritage and storied journey as an independent artist on his way to becoming one of music’s next big things with his inimitable creativity.
Opening up with bouncy bop “Different”, a collaborative joint with griot Kpemeshi, Slymkrez sets the tempo for this project as a very heart-warming, urban, and introspective record. His eclectic influences can be heard across the EP, including on the love-themed, mid-tempo “Location.” His lithe-heavy vocalization on “Roadside,” sees him reflect on the problems black people encounter when they’re not home. Also features the potential fan-favorite “Quando,” another collaborative joint with Nigerian rapper AQ, and a warm footnote on a project that has a bit of all we need. The EP was written by Slymkrez and features production from one of Nigeria’s most dynamic talents, Siwanna.
